Bed Base Assembly Instructions

  • Tools For The Job Tools For The Job You will need a set of scissors to cut the packaging, a set of pliers to remove staples, a pen (black marker is ideal) and a Phillips or crosshead screwdriver.

  • Place Bed Base On Bedstead Place Bed Base On Bedstead The base folds across the width of the bed, so place it centrally on the bedstead structure.
  • Carefully Lower Sides Of Base Carefully Lower Sides Of Base Position the base tight against the headboard of the bed so there is no gap at the head.
  • Ensure Base Is Square On Frame Ensure Base Is Square On Frame The bed base width may differ slightly to the bedstead frame, which is common for antique beds. Simply ensure the overlap of the base is even on both sides.
  • Mark Underside Of Base With Marker Pen Mark Underside Of Base With Marker Pen There is a slat running the width of the bed near the head and foot of the bed. Mark with your black marker a line where the slat meets the side runner. Repeat in each corner.
  • Screw Plastic Blocks To Underside Of Base Screw Plastic Blocks To Underside Of Base Turn the halves of the base over again to expose the black marks and screw the blocks in position over these marks. Please see further steps for a detailed explanation.
  • Close-Up Of Mark Close-Up Of Mark The black marks indicate where to screw the plastic blocks.
  • Place Block On Mark Place Block On Mark Ensure the plastic block just covers the black mark and is positioned on the inside of the line, rather than the outside towards the edge of the base.
  • Screw Block In Position Screw Block In Position Screw the plastic block into the wooden slat using the two screw holes. Repeat this process for all four marks.
  • View From Underneath View From Underneath Once the base has been returned rightway up, the plastic blocks butt against the edge of the runner and prevent the base from slipping from side to side.
  • The Finished Base The Finished Base Note there should be no gap at the head of the bed for pillows to drop through, whereas there is gap at the foot of the bed, which is to allow valances and bed covers to be dressed easily.
  • The Mattress The Mattress The mattress simply sits on top of the base and the weight of the mattress ensures the base will not move at all with the plastic blocks in place.
  • The Valance Or Bed Base Cover The Valance Or Bed Base Cover The valance or bed base cover sits over the base, underneath the mattress. If you are ordering a valance please give the depth from the top of the base to the floor
